Xbox Cloud Gaming: games, access and upcoming limits
Check Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want games through an eligible Game Pass subscription. Look up the cloud catalogue before paying: a game being available to download doesn't mean you can stream it.

What Xbox Cloud Gaming gives you
Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games from Microsoft's servers. It comes with eligible Game Pass plans: Essential, Premium and Ultimate. You can also stream selected games you own, not your whole collection, and selected free-to-play games such as Fortnite need only a free Microsoft account. Xbox Cloud Gaming
What you can stream depends on your plan, your region and the game. The catalogue rotates, so games arrive and leave. A game you can download through Game Pass isn't automatically in the cloud catalogue. Search for the specific games you want before you pay.

What changes in November 2026?
On 3 September 2026, Xbox announced that from November 2026 cloud play will come with monthly hour allowances: 15 hours on Ultimate, 10 on Premium and 5 on Essential. It also said extra hours will be sold separately, and that pay-as-you-go cloud play will open to people without Game Pass. These are announced changes, not current limits. Xbox hasn't said what extra hours will cost. Xbox Wire
Five hours a month is roughly one long weekend session. If you expect to stream most evenings, check the announced limits and extra-hour pricing before committing to a long subscription. A prepaid deal that looks cheap now can cost more once you're buying hours on top.
Devices, controllers and connection
Xbox lists 10Mbps for mobile devices and 20Mbps for PCs, tablets and consoles. You'll want a compatible controller for most games. Selected games support touch controls on phones and tablets, but not all of them. Xbox Cloud Gaming
For a TV, handheld or anything unusual, check Xbox's verified devices list rather than assuming your model works.
Check it before you pay
- Sign in first. If you already have Game Pass, sign in at xbox.com/play before buying anything else. You may already have cloud play.
- Pick three games. Choose three games you actually want to play and check each is in the cloud catalogue.
- Confirm the plan. Check each of those games streams on the plan you'd buy, in your country.
- Use your real setup. Try it on the device and controller you'll actually use, not a borrowed laptop.
- Play at busy times. Test during normal evening hours, when your connection is most crowded.
- Price the upgrade. Compare the extra cost of a higher plan with what another service would cost for the same games.
Pitfalls to avoid
- Paying twice. If a plan you already have includes cloud play, don't add another subscription for the same games.
- Assuming your owned games stream. Only selected owned games do.
- Editions and add-ons. Check the edition and DLC you care about are available when streaming. Don't assume.
- Ignoring the November caps. The announced hour allowances matter more the longer you commit.
