GeForce NOW vs Shadow PC: games or a full Windows PC?
Check GeForce NOW for supported games you want to launch with less setup. Consider Shadow PC when you need a Windows desktop for launchers, tools or a particular mod setup.

How much control do you need?
Launch supported PC games
GeForce NOW
A good first check when you don't need a separate Windows desktop.
Install your own tools and launchers
Shadow PC
Consider a full cloud PC after checking the game and software compatibility.
| What matters | GeForce NOW | Shadow PC |
|---|---|---|
| Game access | Supported titles and stores | Install PC games yourself; compatibility restrictions apply |
| Desktop access | No full Windows desktop | Remote Windows desktop |
| Installations | Ready-to-Play or eligible Install-to-Play | You manage installs and updates |
| Storage | Rules depend on game delivery and storage add-ons | Included drive space plus optional paid storage |
Write an install list first
Name the game, launcher, mods and other tools you actually need. If the list is just a supported game, start by checking GeForce NOW. If it includes a specific external mod manager or Windows app, investigate whether that setup works on Shadow.
For example, owning a PC game while using a Mac doesn't automatically mean you need a whole cloud desktop. Check the game's GeForce NOW listing first. A required tool that won't run there is a concrete reason to investigate a full PC.
GeForce NOW: start here with an existing PC library
Ready-to-Play games and Install-to-Play games work differently. The latter can need a download each session, or a paid storage add-on to keep the installation. Check the save system before starting a campaign.
You don't get unrestricted Windows access. Look up the exact game and supported store, and check any required mod separately. Don't choose on the assumption that an entire Steam library or every mod will work.
Shadow PC: for a Windows setup you manage yourself
Shadow gives you control over a remote Windows setup. That also leaves you responsible for installations, updates and space. Add up the size of your games and tools, leave room for updates, and include any storage subscription in the bill.
Check Shadow's incompatible-games list before paying. Some anti-cheat systems block cloud PCs. Desktop access won't solve that.
Plan the first session around setup. Keep important files and saves backed up, and test your controller or keyboard mapping before settling into a long game.

Compare the bill after the introductory offer
For Shadow, check the renewal amount on its current offers page and add storage you actually need. For GeForce NOW, check the membership and playtime terms, then add any required persistent storage.
A cloud PC you use for games and other permitted software may be easier to justify than one you only open for a single supported game. That is a question about your use, not proof that either service will run faster.
The GeForce NOW guide and Shadow PC guide cover the details. Test on your normal connection before a long commitment.
Before choosing
- Which is better for mods?
- Start with the exact mod and any required manager. Shadow gives you broader installation control, but compatibility still needs checking. GeForce NOW's mod support is more limited and game-specific.
- Which has less lag?
- We haven't run a comparative latency test. Your route to the service, device and network conditions matter, so use an actual session to judge.
